Happy Chuseok from Moon Rabbit Media!

Moon Rabbit Media wishes everyone a Happy Chuseok!

Our good friend and Motion Graphic Designer Ebony Kim created an illustration of two rabbits, Jade & Mochi, making rice cakes on the moon to mark the Chuseok holiday.

Chuseok, or “Autumn Eve”, is a harvest holiday celebrated in Korea, during which everyone visits their hometowns and feasts on traditional Korean dishes. It is a three-day holiday that falls on the harvest moon. The folklore attributed to the moon conveys a story of the moon rabbit who works hard making rice cakes, a staple of the Korean harvest. The rice cakes it makes symbolize the celebration of a bountiful Mid-Autumn harvest, along with good wishes and dreams.

Moon Rabbit Media - Film Slates

Moon Rabbit Media just ordered two brand new A Camera and B Camera Film Slates. These slates look fantastic and have the U.S. flag and of course the Georgia state flag since we are a proud Georgia company. The colors on these slates look incredible and we can not wait to start breaking them in on our next production. At the end of every shoot, we always ask our clients if they would like to take a photo holding the Moon Rabbit Media slate.

Soldier's Heart: Original Soundtrack (2020) OST

Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for Moon Rabbit Media's Soldier's Heart (2020).

The creation of the score for Soldier's Heart (2020) was an extremely collaborative process. The film's director, Seth F. Johnson, started speaking with the composer nine months before the first day of production on the film even began. Seth was very interested in using a few key instruments and sounds such as bells, chimes, and crystal bowls. They were focused on creating a score that sounded very organic and conveyed all of the necessary emotions while still fitting in the post-Civil War period. The final result is a score that perfectly complements the film and its message.

Moon Rabbit Media - Savannah Safe Pledge

Moon Rabbit Media has taken the Savannah Safe Pledge to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

We have accepted the challenge from the City of Savannah to ensure we operate under the following protocols:

• We offer a wide variety of virtual meetings such as Zoom calls, teleconferences, look-books, and virtual presentations.

• All crew members wear an N95 Mask to meetings and onset.

• We regularly wash and sanitize our hands throughout the days shoot and to all meetings.

• For studio work we reduce occupancy so there are never too many people on set.

• Lastly we abide by all orders and directives issued by government and public health officials.

Moon Rabbit Media - On Camera Interviews

One of our favorite things to film at Moon Rabbit Media is a classic two-camera interview.

Before every interview, we always remind our clients that we at Moon Rabbit Media are on their side.

We understand that many people are not accustomed to appearing on camera and we want all our interviewees to feel as comfortable and natural as possible.

Trust us when we say that we will edit everything together in a way that successfully gets your message across and makes you and your company look amazing.

We keep things fun and engaging and our interviewer always has a list of fantastic questions to ask our subjects.

The images below are from a two-camera interview setup using dual Sony a7RIII cameras with Sony GM 24-70mm and 70-200mm lenses. Our sound mixer had the interviewees miked with a lav mic as well as an overhead boom.

Stills - The Stan Smith meets the Superstar - Superstan

Moon Rabbit Media’s Seth F. Johnson had the opportunity to work with adidas for the commercial shoot of the Superstan sneaker. Seth photographed these interesting side by side shots on a 35mm Contax G2 shooting Kodak Portra 400. The commercial was shot in Hilton Head Island, SC, and was a one day shoot.

“HI I’m Stan Smith, people think that I’m a shoe.”

Downtown Savannah, GA - Drone Footage

Moon Rabbit Media hits the streets of downtown Savannah, GA for a busy day of filming drone footage and b-roll. We shot the footage on a DJI Mavic Pro 2 and used the back of our truck as a launchpad when we were in tight spaces downtown. Our crew were all on walkie and Moon Rabbit Media’s FAA-Certified Part 107 Commercial Drone Operator had two visual observers to help him navigate the streets of Savannah when flying the drone. February is a great time for aerial photography as the cold weather keeps the humidity down which maximizes the clarity of footage when we are flying.

Crew - Andrew Jones - Sound Mixer / Boom Operator

We are proud to introduce the newest member of the Moon Rabbit Media crew. Andrew Jones just relocated to Savannah from Philadelphia and is a commercial Sound Mixer, Boom Operator, and Post Sound Supervisor. As Moon Rabbit Media’s in-house Mixer/Boom Operator, Andrew prides himself on capturing crisp, clear audio to enhance the story being told. In addition, he is well versed in audio post-processing to ensure a fantastic listening experience.

Here is a list of Moon Rabbit Media and Andrew Jones’ combined location sound inventory:

Moon Rabbit Media's - Soldier's Heart (2020) - Short Film

Soldier's Heart (2020)

Summary - Soldier's Heart (2020) is a post-Civil War film about John (Thomas Clay Strickland), a soldier who has recently returned from the Civil War. John experiences flashbacks from the mental and emotional wounds he has suffered during battle, preventing him from physically returning home. Not understanding his trauma, he sets up a camp on his property in an attempt to continue living as a soldier. He spends the majority of his time in the swamps and marshes that surround his coastal Georgia home. His daughter Sarah (Merrik Foune), who wants her father back, tries to find a way to help John return home. Seeking guidance from her grandmother (Sheril Rodgers), she attempts to build a relationship with her suffering father.

Soldier’s Heart: Original Soundtrack (2020) OST

The creation of the score for Soldier's Heart (2020) was an extremely collaborative process. The film's director, Seth F. Seth was very interested in using a few key instruments and sounds such as bells, chimes, and crystal bowls. Chadd focused on creating a score that sounded very organic and conveyed all of the necessary emotions while still fitting in the post-Civil War period. Soldier’s Heart: Behind the Scenes (2020) BTS

This is a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Moon Rabbit Media’s Soldier’s Heart (2020). The film covers the pre-production, production, and post-production aspects of making Soldier’s Heart (2020) and also highlights some of the challenges that went along with making this historical drama. We new that we wanted to put together a comprehensive BTS film, so we made a concerted effort to film every meeting, writing session, and rehearsal along the way.

Directors Statement - When I first started researching post-Civil War life, I was immediately struck by the fact that they didn't have a good understanding of what post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was, initially thinking that it was a heart condition. Homer, Shakespeare, and Dickens all wrote about symptoms that we now recognize as being PTSD. I want to inform the audience that PTSD is something that has existed for a long time and that it is something that soldiers have had to deal with through every major war. It took on different names such as Soldier’s Heart, Shell Shock, Combat Fatigue, until it was finally properly diagnosed in recent history. This film is about healing and showing that, with support and perseverance, PTSD can be overcome even in the most challenging of situations.

Soldier's_Heart_(2019)_Moon_Rabbit_Media_SethF.Johnson_Poster.jpg

Poster - Here is the first official poster for Soldier’s Heart (2020). When creating this poster, we were inspired by still photographer Kimberly French’s work on The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007). Having always been very fond of the unit stills from that film, we took direct influence from its key art and poster. We chose the anatomical heart as a reference to the medical significance of the films title and its themes of post-traumatic stress disorder. Moments before we did this gallery shoot, there was a light rain over the marsh, and you can still see the rain drops on the marsh grass in the foreground of this image. When shooting environmentally based films like this, we found that natural occurrences were best embraced and often served as hidden gems, further pushing the realism of the film.

Unit Still Photography

We knew going into Soldier’s Heart (2020) the importance of having amazing still images, not only to use as advertising and marketing materials but also to document the creation of the film and the behind-the-scenes. Above is a gallery of some of our favorite images for the five days of shooting.

Unit Still Photography by Justin Kamstra

Merrik Foune as Sarah

Merrik_Foune_Moon_Rabbit_Media_Soldiers_Heart_001.jpg

Merrik intuitively understood the role of Sarah and ran with it, doing lots of background research and getting herself familiar with the time period we were blown away by her dedication. With 70% of the films dialogue belonging to Sarah, there was a lot riding on this teen actress, but that didn’t intimidate Merrik at all. She delivered powerful performances while working the long hours of our rigorous schedule. She took direction well and didn’t let the emotionally taxing scenes of the film get her down. Merrik has appeared previously in films such as All Eyez on Me (2017) and numerous other short films.

Thomas Clay Strickland as John

Thomas_Clay_Strickland_Moon_Rabbit_Media_Soldiers_Heart.jpg

Thomas brought this role to life in a way that no one else could. From the first moment that we met him, we knew that he was the right actor to play the part of John. Thomas showed and unparalleled focus and stayed true to the character, even in the most challenging of situations. Spending much of his time on set in the marsh and swamp and having to wear heavy wool clothing throughout all of his performances, he was able to find the character every time. Thomas has appeared previously in films such as The Act (2019), The Glorias (2020), and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020).

Executive_Producers_Randy_Bocook_Shannon_Bocook_003.jpg

Executive Producers - Randy and Shannon Bocook, along with their daughter and our lead actress Merrik Foune, were instrumental in the creation of Soldier’s Heart. They were with the film when it was only a concept. With their full support and dedication, the film was able to be realized. They understood the importance of this story and its historical significance. They went the extra mile to make sure that the cast and crew had everything that they needed along the way to see this film become a success. Randy and Shannon care deeply about film and creating a quality narrative. They inspired the crew to push farther every day, and we are so grateful that they invested in us and the story of Soldier’s Heart.

Stills - Stratton Leopold

We recently spoke with Stratton Leopold at a screening of his film The Mosquito Coast (1986) starring Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, and River Phoenix.

We asked Stratton about any tips he may have for producing your first feature film, something that Moon Rabbit Media is currently laying the groundwork to do. Stratton was a wealth of knowledge and an inspiration.

Stratton is a living legend here in Savannah and has produced films like Mission Impossible III (2006), The Sum of All Fears (2002), The General’s Daughter (1999) and has worked as a production manager for films like Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), The Wolfman (2010), and Star Trek (2009).
